Labette Health | Winter 2020

2 Labette Health • Winter 2020 An eye to the future Because of YOU, YOUR FAMILIES and YOUR BUSINESSES, Labette Health continues to grow to meet the future needs of southeast Kansas. It is only through your continued support that we are able to grow, recruit and provide the highest quality of care in southeast Kansas. Our hope is that we have delivered on our promise to provide “Exceptional Healthcare Centered Around You” because it is an honor and a privilege to care for the people of southeast Kansas. Labette Health is a sacred place. Life begins in our hospital, sometimes life ends in our hospital, and every emotion in between those two milestones happens each day. So it is our honor and privilege to care for you, your families and your businesses. Thank you for the trust you place in us! We’ve had a lot of growth in the past four years alone. In 2017, we opened a new rural health care model in Independence, Kansas, following the closure of Mercy Hospital Independence. In 2018, we expanded into the Chanute, Kansas, area to provide the first affordable Express Care as an alternative to an expensive emergency room. In 2019, we expanded our Chanute, Kansas, team through the addition of Chanute native Scott Coates, MD, general surgeon. We were very fortunate to add Anne Hogsett, MD, and Alix Oreck, MD, to our outstanding hospitalist team in 2019. Also in 2019, we expanded the Cherryvale, Kansas, clinic through a remodel and the addition of a pharmacy. We also opened two new Rural Health Clinics in Oswego and Chetopa, Kansas, to provide services to those communities previously served by the now-closed Oswego Community Hospital. With an eye to the future, we have started an $18 million expansion and renovation of Labette Health, which will position us to continue to be southeast Kansas’ hospital and trauma center of choice far into the future. This multi-million dollar expansion will increase our operating room capacity and our expand our nationally recognized orthopedics program. It will also include a renovation of our medical/surgical rooms, intensive care rooms, and Birthing Center. You deserve the best patient experience, and we realize that our facility is an important part of your experience while here at Labette Health. In 2020, we are also planning to add two more clinics in the region. We are also planning to implement an inpatient dialysis program under the leadership of John Watson, MD, Chief Hospital Officer, and Kathi McKinney, MHCL, BSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer. The future is very exciting and very bright for southeast Kansas and Labette Health! Thank you for all of your past support—and thank you in advance for your future support. For all of your health care needs, we hope you will simply say “Take Me to Labette Health.” Sincerely, Brian A.
