It has been over 100 years since our nation has faced a pandemic of this magnitude, and we have all been impacted by the economic and emotional stress this has placed upon our nation. As our ancestors before us prevailed in the early 1900s, during the Spanish influenza, we too shall prevail through our commitment, determination, and perseverance. Labette Health’s focus, response, and recovery plan to the COVID-19 pandemic is to maintain our quality and safety record as the only Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital in the area with a Five-Star Quality rating, and the only Top 100 Orthopedic Hospital in the area based upon quality and outcomes ratings provided by CareChex. Also, as the area’s only Trauma Center with an Air Ambulance Helicopter stationed at its Trauma Center, we are looking to the future to ensure that we are here to support your and your family’s healthcare needs 30 years into the future. In order to prepare for the future, we have started our $18.5 million expansion, modernization, and renovation project kicking off the Labette Health Foundation’s Capital Campaign—Take Me to Labette Health, and we have added a number of physicians and services that will be discussed in this newsletter edition. This construction project will span the next 18 months and will touch virtually every area of the hospital (see “Milestone dates”). As we look to the future, we are considering adding other services and expanding some of our current services, so we will keep you informed as those plans develop and the milestone dates change.
