Labette Health | Winter 2020

Patient testimonial by Kyla Shultz Q Congratulations on expecting your second child! How was your experience with the office of Shawn Zimbrunes, MD; Roseanne Olmstead, MD; and Stephanie M. Thompson, APRN, WHNP-BC, during this pregnancy? First off, they are amazing—not just as doctors but as people to be able to connect and have open communication with. All of the nurses in their office are amazing and make you feel very comfortable, calm and relaxed every step of the way. They aren’t the type to push you out the door either. If you have questions or concerns, they will sit there with you and talk through every concern you have—whether you are there 10 minutes or 45 minutes. With this being my second pregnancy, Koleman enjoys going to my appointments with me so he can “hear the baby,” and everyone in the office makes him feel very included. Q Why did you choose Labette Health for the birth of your first child, Koleman? With Matt and me growing up in Parsons, we love our community and didn’t really feel like we needed or wanted to go to a different town where we didn’t live to have our son. With it being a smaller community, we know a lot of people who work at the hospital, and that is one thing that we love about Labette Health. It just made everything that much better because everyone makes you feel like family, and you can have a more personal and intimate experience. Having a sense of where you feel at home is why we wouldn’t want to go anywhere else! Q How would you sum up your overall experience during your labor and delivery with Koleman? Amazing—even though I was in labor for 24 hours with Koleman. The baby quit progressing and just wasn’t coming. Dr. Olmstead asked me, “Are you ready to have this baby?” and then those words were said that I was not prepared for: C-section . Even though Dr. Olmstead had warned me a few weeks prior that this might happen, I had brushed it off and said, “No, that won’t happen to me.” As much as I was so ready to see our son and hold him in my arms, I felt like I was defeated and failed. I immediately broke down and everyone, and I mean everyone— from the nurses to Dr. Olmstead—was so comforting and just there for me! So to the OR we went. They took Matt off to get him ready and started prepping me. Everyone in that OR was amazing. Why I chose Labette Health …and you should too! “I love their whole office because you don’t just feel like a patient— they actually know your name! They are very personal and make you feel like family.” —Kyla Shultz, who will soon deliver her second baby at Labette Health. The baby’s gender was kept under wraps…Kyla will be finding out along with her husband, Matt, and son, Koleman, by reading this magazine! Its a girl! 4 Labette Health
